Classical art began around 480 BC. The first uniquely 'Classical' sculpture was made at that time by the Athenian sculptor Kritios. It reflects the change from the strict symmetry of Archaic sculpture to a more naturalistic style. Mature Classical art reached its peak in the sculptures of Pheidias. His relief sculptures for the Parthenon showed spaciousness, depth of carving, and grace of movement.
